October 2006
You will find details on the Ofcom website

Licence is the noun, (license is the verb) Easy to remember if you think of advice and advise. Applies to other things as well such as practise and practice

Depends on your country of origin!

How nice to see someone like VicS taking the time and trouble to correct english grammar. I am often tempted to do the same but then, I have a life.

I must apologise to magwich for that. I do like to try to get my spelling correct up correcting someone else in public is inexcusable.

However, others who like me have trouble with words like that may be interested in the method I use for getting them correct.

He wasn't correcting Magwitch's grammar ( even though it was appalling)
merely his spelling............ /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The RYA recently told us the following

"Ofcom has announced that, as a result of its consultation on the ships’ radio licensing system, the following changes will come into force on 1st October 2006:

a) ships’ radio licences will be issued for the life of the vessel, removing the requirement for radio users to purchase a licence each year. The licence will remain valid for as long as the licence details remain correct or until such time as the licence is either revoked by Ofom or surrendered by the licensee. Such licences will not be transferable upon the sale of the vessel.

b) ships’ portable radio licences will be issued and be valid as long as the licence details remain correct or until such time as the licence is revoked by Ofcom. Such licences shall not be transferable upon the sale of the radio equipment.

c) a web-based licensing service will be provided as an alternative to the postal service.

d) electronic licences will be issued online, free of charge. The licensee will then print a hard copy of the licence.

e) licensees will be required to confirm their licence details at least once every 10 years.

f) A copy of the licence must be kept on board the vessel but the licence disc need no longer be displayed.

Ofcom will continue to make paper licences available for applicants who do not have access to, or prefer not to use, the Internet but an administrative fee may be charges for this service."

iespell 2.1.1 is an excellent little program, but it wouldn't have picked up the spelling errors in this case. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: spelling - IESpell

Indeed it insists that only LICENSE is permissible!. At least AOLs spell checker allows both. Anyone know of a FREE spell checker which also uses grammatical context to determine the correct (UK English) spelling?

Vic

Re: spelling - IESpell

Mine accepts both spellings. You haven't got yours set up for American English rather than real English have you?
