Anyone who's been watching 'Getting Afloat' with Nick Gates on Discovery Home & Leisure might be interested to know there's a new 15-part series called 'Dreamboats' with Anton Fitzpatrick starting this Friday.

It's on at 6:00 am and 16:00pm every weekday (not bank hol 25th) from Friday 8th Aug to Fri 29th Aug. From the descriptions on http://www.homeandleisure.co.uk it sounds a similar format to Getting Afloat where a timber sailyboat is renovated plus features.

Getting Afloat is still running at the same times as above this week, then repeats on occasional Saturdays & Sundays. I asked DH&L to tell me about the series and they only told me about the first 6. Didn't realise there were 15 and thought it odd it ended with a half-built boat (as if there aren't enough of those already!).

They could make more of an effort to promote these things- only heard about the new series by accident.

The bloke who rebuilds cars ('a car is reborn'?), and now choppers, should have a go at a boat from plans- that would make a good series.

P.S. I'm nothing to do with the programmes, just an interested viewer.

Happy viewing, Steve

I only get these series on the 'Discovery' channel when they come round. Its surprising about the lack of promotion of this programme (not seen yet by the way) as my son took the head of Sky TV out sailing last week and his is a very keen sailor. He has is own yacht. Of course it maybe the fact that, my son said that 'he' would sack them all at the station and start again when he got back. When I asked my son to raise a complaint I had about Sky News weather.

Also the Travel Channel are running a 'season of sail', which includes 'Distant Shores' - about a Canadian bluewater couple cruising the med and 'Tall ship Chronicles’ – a documentary about the crew’s round world passage on the barque ‘Picton Castle’. Both are on a Monday starting about 8.30pm, then repeated through the week.

Well worth a look.

Watched the Tall Ships Chronicle this morning. Looks like a group from all walks and may be interesting to follow. Kind of Big Brother on a tall ship.
The Dreamboats series is a repeat. It was shown about 2 months ago.

Is this a new series or a re-run of the one that was on Discovery Home and Leisure a month or so ago?

That was a good series, based on building a little "Elf" dinghy plus bits about other boats, mainly but not exclusively wooden. Well worth watching anyway

Repeats?

Well I know I have other things to do with time apart from watching telly, but it proves my point they don't promote these things as I didn't get a sniff of any of the 15 episodes 'last time around'.

'Sfunny how I always get the Fools & Horses repeats almost every time I turn the telly on......

Happy viewing,

Steve
