New sails

The main thing ( apart from emptying the moveable ballast in the wine rack ) is that the slot between the two looks correct..

Also , being made from the same colour aids performance , allegedly

You will have no trouble short tacking up the river with those.

If my understanding is correct, one doesn't short tack with this type of boat, one simply goes in a straightish line, at whatever speed makes the biggest wash. Seems to be working well, we had lots of friendly waves from some sailing yachts when we took her out.

You could simulate it by running for a while on one engine then swapping to the other. You will however miss the excitement of the bum doing the steering on the tiller and the genoa getting stuck on the babystay.

Both D12's? In that case they're interchangeable. But better to use both together to give better sail trim and helm balance.

TAMD71a's Definitely better balance using both, unless you want to do doughnuts :D
Definitely. A few years ago I did the second half of Biscay on one engine after picking up a massive tarpaulin and ropes halfway across. Managed to swim and cut off most of it mid ocean but unable to get the shaft/prop completely clear. Slow progress when not planing but got there in the end.

plenty of space in the e/r compared to my mate's same era P45 with two CAT3208!

Yes, good space. I have a customer with a slightly older P45, fitted with TAMD70E's, very awkward to work on as one oil filter is behind the engine and one water pump impeller is behind and half way along, very hard to get at. Mine have remote oil filters and the raw water pumps at the front of the engines, so o service parts between the engines and fuel tanks.
