Ones definitely older than the other, has the stiffness gone out of the old one yet.
Is that a wine rack top right? You haven't been drinking as it looks a bit empty ...
You will have no trouble short tacking up the river with those.
You could simulate it by running for a while on one engine then swapping to the other. You will however miss the excitement of the bum doing the steering on the tiller and the genoa getting stuck on the babystay. If my understanding is correct, one doesn't short tack with this type of boat, one simply goes in a straightish line, at whatever speed makes the biggest wash. Seems to be working well, we had lots of friendly waves from some sailing yachts when we took her out.
Both D12's? In that case they're interchangeable. But better to use both together to give better sail trim and helm balance.
Definitely. A few years ago I did the second half of Biscay on one engine after picking up a massive tarpaulin and ropes halfway across. Managed to swim and cut off most of it mid ocean but unable to get the shaft/prop completely clear. Slow progress when not planing but got there in the end.TAMD71a's Definitely better balance using both, unless you want to do doughnuts![]()
plenty of space in the e/r compared to my mate's same era P45 with two CAT3208!
