On the strength of forumites' good experiences mentioned in several ECF 'new sails' threads, I've only gone and been and went and done it as well!

I've just shaken hands over the phone with Paul Lees of Crusader, for radial-cut main and jib in that posh new Hydra Net cloth (it's got Dyneema in it).

Forgetting favourable forumite feedback for a moment, the price differential was a whopping 40% more from the nearest competitor, and 62% more from the next nearest

interestingly they quoted me for a mainsail at the boat show and were more expensive than others - mind you the hydranet was the poshest material available - I went for vektron (?!) from Kemp.

neither vektron or hydranet are laminates - they're dacron with a woven thread running through to preserve the shape - whether it works is to be seen but the feedback on threads here is good...

Me too. What do folk think of their magic-whatyamacallit for dropping main?

It was being demo-ed to someone else while I was discussing the quote. I got the impression it's a new 'take' on a main downhaul.

If the new main comes with it, I'll give it a try, but I've never needed one so far. It's just another bit of string to complicate things.
