Read that edition in the Minnie mouse, hasler back in September. Not bad. But have failed to get round to buying one since. Apathy I guess, which is not good news for the backers.

Also note Yachting Life http://www.yachtinglife.co.uk/

Came across it in print for the first time 2 days ago, but didn't buy (YM got my 4 quid)

Maybe next time

Yachting Life isn't a new launch magazine - it has been running for decades, initially I think covering just Scotland but now also Ireland, Wales and northern England (or the best places for cruising, as we see it!)
However it isn't immune to the challenges of paper press and I believe has recently dropped from monthly to two monthly.

Yes the edition i just glanced at in wh smiths had a preview of the London boat show!

At last! A magazine that fits my sort of sailing and my sort of boat exactly. The other magazines have been too much about, out of reach boats, out of reach equipment and destinations. I have been a boat owner for over 40 years (I currently keep a Finesse 24 on the east coast.). This is the first magazine that fits the bill. Hopefully, there are enough of us with modest boats, modest ambitions and a wish to keep the old skills alive, to make it a success. If it attracts a younger readership, so much the better!

your post will bring joy to the hardened hearts of some old hacks

I agree absolutely. I think it is a great read, and a lot of effort has gone into the writing of diverse articles. My only issue is getting hold of it. The launch was only through WH Smith. Edinburgh is poorly served by WH Smith apart from the station, which does not carry it. So I have picked up half the issues so far on my travels. I know I could subscribe, but with magazines prefer to buy whats there when I need one.

Bought the first three editions, and found much better than Classic Boats obsession with unobtainable superyachts. But haven't been bothered to go and get the next one.

I too bought a subscription, suits my bumbling around sailing better that any of the others.

so, for my thousand words I was thinking of several possible subjects

two stroke engines - how marvelously green they are

Outboard wells in big boats - they will never work

Boiling tin cans can kill you

Winter sailing without an eberspacher is impossible and how I nearly died of cold using four candles and a flower pot

red diesel - how to pretend you heat your boat with it

big high speed mobos - why I wish I had one.

You seem to be suffering from the grumps though? So you might have to up your cheerfulness quotient?!

Too much time in Scotland recently? I find the lack of sunshine up here pretty mood unenhancing!!

How about some ditch crawling further south? Somewhere sunny?

This is the only yachting magazine I have yet read that gets serious about the use of the Swiss Army Knife, see my transcription of a forum thread in the latest issue (or so I hear). It deserves the support of all right thinking boat owning non varnish worshipping people. Bless its heart, and all who sail in it. The magazine, not the heart. Obviously.
