I thought I would ask the more rational part of the fora here on ECF before unleashing this on the PBO bit.

I have taken delivery of a new main and genoa from a reputable sailmaker. The genoa is too tight a fit for the roller foil. I think this up to the sail maker to fix?

The main, despite verbally asking for a copy of the existing main has arrived with a lot less roach than the original which I also delivered to them for overhaul. See pics of new main laid over old main.

Sailing performance seems definitely "off"

I don't imagine it would be easy (or pretty)to add roach, so would I be reasonable to ask for another mainsail to be built?

Your considered opinions would be welcome.

Thanks

Pete

You bet

Not sure about this one.
In our experience, a verbal contract isn't worth the paper it's written on. :(
Would be more confident if you had this in writing.

I think that you should give them a chance to put right their errors - which are their errors not yours. If they don't deal with it then go to the small claims court. I certainly wouldn't accept the addition of more roach (even if that was possible) - a new sail as ordered or nothing. Bolt rope in a genoa should be fixable by them but a basic mistake.

Did you get a new swivel? It doesn't seem to be your year......

No, Goiot seem to have avoided keeping any spares, and they are part of Navimo!!
Luckily manage to fix the old one.

Have sent pics of sail to sailmaker and await their response, but I think they are shut this week.

If you don't mind me chipping in from the less rational part of the forum, I had a problem with the wrong size luff tape being used on my genny (not an EC sailmaker). Took it back to the sailmaker and it was changed without quibble - they'd measured the old luff tape & got it wrong.

Since been back to the same sailmaker for various bits of work and a new sail.

The genoa is an easy fix and they'll do that without quibble. The main should be replaced and I suspect not much cost as they can sell the current "new" one for at least cost price as an off the shelf mainsail.

Luff tape rope size is a common mistake ,unfortunately stretchy rubber cords quite often inside of older tapes are the cause.
As to the main with minimal roach,if I had been asked for a replacement sail, and provided with the original, and not asked for any changes,an identical size and shape sail, would be made, as be the replacement.
Sadly there isnt much that can be done except make another one.
Cindy

Thanks for the replies so far, I have to add it wasn't an East Coast sailmaker but the same sailmaker who made the originals 8 years ago. I will give them a good chance to see what they will do about it before taking it any further.
