My insurer has insisted that I have a full structural survey on my aging Swift 18.
Most of the problems are consistent with age but the surveyor took exception to the much welded up aluminium rudderstock and has told me to replace it. As Swift 18s are no longer made this suggests one of a small number of options;
1. Have a new stock made up, possibly in stainless steel, although this could be expensive and heavy.
2. Find a scrap rudderstock or even whole rudder from a defunct Swift 18. Any ideas where from?
3. Get a new or second-hand rudder for a similar sized boat and get a boat yard to make the necessary alterations to fit. Probably also very expensive. But any ideas as to where I could get something suitable.
Grateful for any ideas!
Incidentally, is there a Swift 18 owners group anywhere out there?
