Nearly ready to pack up and retire, now the radar has gone. Koden MD 3441. Straight swap is over £2k. I would hire, but it will be a five year tie in, and any new owner might not want that. I would only use F*r**o under severe duress. Any thoughts on a reasonable replacement?

Review of 4 new radars in this month's YM. Furuno top, B&G next then Raymarine then Garmin but they all seem very good at teh core stuff, it seemed a matter of opinion in some cases. Might be worth investing a few quid in the article of if you PM me your email I'll scan it for you.

Why anti Foruno ? Most fishing boats seem to use them. I read somewhere that their is a new type available which seems to offer better performance and lower power consumption but I don't remember the details.

I imagine, as the OP was concerned at the £2K cost of replacing the Koden, that the much more expensive alternatives reviewed in YM wouldn't be of any interest. Apart from buying secondhand, a new standalone Furuno 1623/1715 would seem to be the cheapest replacement.

I'm not convinced a touch-screen display is the right choice for a fishing boat.

OK with a touch pen, even better than knob twiddling with manky gloves on... Koden parent co is encouraging, but I'd rather deal with a local agent, will ask them, Marconi or whatever they are called now.

Selex say the Si Tex uses Koden scanners, they can't supply or support. I can use a bigger monitor for the display and use the touch screen as a control panel. Looks hopeful. Just got to find a 12v monitor on ebay.

Yes, maggie may only do five years: good deal here:

£250 less than local.

Apropo of nothing
