New propeller and saildrive: epoxy primer & antifouling?

The saildrive housing originally had acoating. Provided that is still intact just coat with Trilux AF same for prop.

I'm about to fit a new Volvo Penta propeller and 120S-E saildrive. I know the propeller comes with a black coating, but not sure if the saildrive is bare metal or coated.

Either way, should I use epoxy primer?

Any suggestions on antifouling paint?

I topped up my saildrive with International Interprotect Epoxy + Trilux 3 years ago.
I am pondering applying Interprotect / Trilux to the propeller to insulate it from electro damage

Won't do anything for a standard aluminium prop. It is isolated electrically from the saildrive by the rubber drive bush, so only needs Trilux for anti fouling.

Consider using Hempel Mille Drive , supplied in an aerosol , with a separate aerosol of primer.
This did pretty well on my prop last year and is also said to be formulated for legs and out drives.

hi Nigel,

My Bav has the same setup.

The black coating on the propeller seems to be some kind of plastic coating and it is a really good hard coating. After 9 years it is now starting to crack / flake off in some places so i sanded these parts down using 80 grit sandpaper. The rest which is still attached will not budge, so as i say, it is a pretty strong coating.

In my case, i now applied interprotect on the leg and propeller, particularly to those areas on the prop where the coating flaked and are now bare aluminium.

You could do the same i presume, maybe interprotect or equivalent to safe guard the new prop.

I then use VELOX for the saildrive and propeller. It comes with two tins. One is a metal primer and the other the actual antifoul. Not sure if you will find this in the UK or Tenerife. In that case i would apply primocon first as a primer and then paint with trilux ( or equivalent.)
