Hi,

I am the proud owner of a Princess 32 (circa 1980 build). :D

I've had her for a little over a month and learning as I go.

I have been surfing the web looking for all the info I can but am struggling getting any details on the helm controls.

Please excuse my ignorance ...

I have a single engine Volvo Penta 75hp model with a bow thruster fitted.

Anyone familiar with the Princess controls that can help me with the following would be appreciated.

1. On the control panel to the bottom, there are two pull out knobs. I haven't figured out their use as yet.

2. There is an orange light on the right of the panel that comes on when the key is to the far right, such that the indicators register, rev counter etc. The label under it is vague but looks to be 'Amp' so I'm guessing this is battery related.

3. What is the exact functionality of the key position, i.e. central after starting and far right after starting other than enlivening the panel?

Thanks in advance.

Richard,

Sorry, can't offer you any useful help but can say Welcome to the forum and wish you well with your new boat. Hope all goes well for you.

If I don't ask you, someone else will before long, some pictures of your new boat please. This forum likes boat pics!

Welcome aboard!

Andrew

Hi,

I used to have a princess 32 with twin volvos. As you say there were two pull out knobs on each engine control panel. One knob was to turn on the instrument lights. Try it in the dark and it should illuminate the rev counter and temp gauge. Can't remember what the other did!

As for the orange light, if you put a few revs on it should go out. It basically indicates whether or not the alternator is putting out sufficient amps,(?) so on tickover it may glow. If it doesn't go off with a few revs then it probably needs looking at.

Hope this helps and congrats on the new boat. Had a great fun with my p32

Here is an advert from Motor Boat & Yachting from about the late 70's :

A friend of my parents bought one in the early 70's, and shipped it out to Barbados - to a 10 year old kid it seemed enormous, and outrageously luxurious, a true motor yacht.
I used to go out fishing with him and his mates on Saturdays - we never caught anything, but I realise now that they were not really too fussed - it was a day out on the water, drinking beer, away from their missuses...... :D

She had the two larger Volvo engine options I think, as she could get up on the plane in calm water (when they worked.... I remember they were very tempermental, especially the outdrives).

Thanks

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and your responses.

I have not taken any pics as yet .. I've been cleaning her up and waiting on a nice day. I will post some soon :)

I am leaving her in the water over the winter and plan on spending much of my Christmas break afloat .. can't wait.
