New Portofino 48

the 48 Portofino is nice, like a baby to the new 54 Predator on the looks, my only concern is the stairs and the big price
where not IPS made to reduce the cost of new boats....

and these Sunseekers usually loose quite there value on the used boat market compared to other makers there deprication is huge

Yeah, I thought IPS was supposed to save cost too, at least compared to a shaftdrive installation. Is it Volvo who charge excessively for the IPS package or is it the builders who price IPS boats higher because they think demand will be higher?

Agree that Sunseekers do seem to depreciate more heavily than other makes but why? Is it because there are more available on the used market or what? There's no real difference in build quality between a Sunseeker and Princess or Fairline (yeah, yeah, I know some of you might argue that one!) so why should they depreciate more?

Has to be the bling issue.

They are a fashion item after all

i just cant see that colour aging very well, like white cars ...great fun now probably not so much in a few years.... my opinion only.

I think the most obvious reasons for SS depriaction are that first there models stay in production for an average of two years (for e.g. Fline Princess have average of five years, Italian Azimut has 8 years)
second is there design is suited to young buyers (- 40 years of age) and and is also very trendy
you know how it goes with latest fashion trends they do not age well, altough I have in my book some SSeekers who did age better then expected...

150k is bonkers but I heard a while back that it's so expensive because they factor in it coming back to the factory to be sorted out again. Ie poor finish. Usual bloke in the pub info though.

The hand rails are yet to be fitted to the show boat. Rushed to get it there in time. Usual ss practice.

I used to have a 47 and thought the 48 was a huge improvment. Saloon felts larger, cockpit felt bigger (even with garage option as per show boat? They are doing larger cockpit and no sunpad option) I prefer tender garge to platform mounting. 48 has both.

Nav seat opposite helm was great with superb visibility.

Would wait for a used one at current prices. But then I assume weakness in gbp that most are going abroad.

Just got back from visiting the show today, Sunseeker stated that all slots for the 48's are already sold for 2010 with next available slots in spring 2011. Apparently their dealers ordered most of these on spec and they had quite a few ordered "off plan" from their existing customers.

Just do not understand how anyone could order a boat "off plan". Easy for some I guess.........

think the carpet would, be a via those ladders a mess, imagine carrying up a cup of tea or soup (horrors)

& can just imagine after a rough bit at sea, dragging out the various things disloged and now under the bed round those, well, bits of daft cupbards. I just don't get it, it looks like an expensive SHED. Maybe I've not got enough money to appreciate the boat, I actually don't want to.
