Ok, it has been there for a while so it is not totally new but...

Does anyone know what the purpose of the new jetty/pontoon at Kew Bridge is for? It seems to be deliberately free of any kind of mooring cleat or bollard so my inner cynic is seeing a fop to planning with no real intention to provide river infrastructure?

Ferries on the Alster at Hamburg used to moor with electromagnets which clamped on to steel plates on the piers. I'm surprised this solution isn't more widely used.

Hi. It was built as part of the new housing develoment for the local canoe and SUP club. Unfortunately they do not use it as the drop to the river is too high. If you want to moor you can tie a long line from stern to bow through the belustrade than is on the ramp to the pontoon. You need quite along length. The mooring is is okay to get to on a flood tide but tricky on an ebbing tide as it close to Kew Bridge.
