Are you sure the choke is wide open and the fuel cap open? Before you start!!
If it is then just one very slow pull then two more pulls MAXIMUM should have it started. A new 2.5 Mariner/merc should be very very easy to start. I know as I have one.

If it would be of help I could try and put a video up of my starting procedure?

Anything would be of help and much appreciated B.S thanx. And yes absolutely sure everything is set as it should be, its just my lack of strength thats the problem I think.
 
Some engines are a bit quirky. Are you following it's preference? My old 7.5 Honda will only start with the following procedure: Squeeze bulb; choke out; 1 pull; choke in; one hard pull with a flip at the end. Any other way and it will not go. Are you using the same procedure as hubby?

Same procedure as hubby. I even looked for a bulb to squeeze before attempting and pulling but doesn't seem to be one that I could find anywhere. Gotta say I dont have this problem with the lawn mower!! Yes Alan, your semi colons are quite impressive :)
 
Success at last!

For anyone who might be interested, I finally got the thing started with following technique: Left foot placed on outboard; couple short pulls with right hand then big pull and off she goes. Foot on outboard is the only way I can do it tho :).
