New or secondhand when replacing your boat?

I've done new and second hand, next time will be second hand. Personally the euphoria of a brand new boat only last a few months, the money in your pocket by buying second hand will last a lot longer.

Yes it is nice to know the full history by owning from new but the cost saving of second hand probably outweighs this.

Maybe an ex demo boat could be a compromise?

used every time ,I bought new once at the SIBS in 1976 and cried when I sold it 4 years later, the depreciation was gut wrenching, as mentioned above, you buy all the goodies at extra cost to make it as it should be, and when you sell, your pride and joy's value plumets through the floor.

buy someone else's heartache, and feel good about it.

We have had three boats to date - all purchased new.
First one was very reliable and the after sales service was very good.
The second boat was a different matter altogether.
Current boat had very few faults, all of a minor nature and a couple of these were down to my unfamiliarity. Again, after sales service is excellent - She is one year old on 18th Nov.

I suppose I would have to say that 2 out of 3 is not a bad result.

I would buy new again although not for a few years yet as we really do believe that our choice is perfect for our style of boating.
