Ahoy there Sailor - there is a new reference /teach in for useful knots available on line, in a downloadable format.

Thought it very worthwhile posting details on here. If I knew how to do it better I would, so the internet link is -

I found the drawings /sketches very clear to follow, more than any Photo diagrams seen so far.

Thank you to author Forbes, great work

what a work of passion and excellent graphics.
Many thanks for posting the item.

I do like the reference in the paper to "insubordinate umbrellas".

Thanks for the thumbs up. Nice to see the Knot Booklet shared.

Glad you liked that bit!

If anybody else thinks downloading the Booklet was worth it, do say so.

Not sure if ebooks have new editions or just get updates. Calling it 2.0
Changes include adding the following knots: Water Knot, Carrick Bend, Highwayman's Hitch and Tumble Hitch. Also added drawings of the Constrictor Knot in the Bight and the Shear Lashing, drawings showing how to join Slings and Recovery Straps and a little info/drawing on Slipped Hitches. Have also polished the text a little.

Agreed the illustrations are brilliant. My only criticism is the Zeppelin bend - that's a difficult way to tie it. I prefer Hunter's Bend, which also has an easy way to be tied, and which is almost as good and works with ropes of widely differing diameters, and with straps which I've used to tow a Volkswagon Transporter.
