New name fro boat

I've just bought a nearly new boat which is un-named. Haven't had to think of names before as the boats I'd brought had been a bit older with SSR registered names and it seemed a lot of hassle to change.

Now however is my moment to be creative, to choose something of our own, something sentimental...... And we've gone blank!
Do must people choose childrens / partners names or anagrams of them or just pick something that relevenat.

I'd be grateful for anyfeed back
 
Well mine was called Zonnebloem (Dutch sunflower I believe) so I set about changing the name, the Broker
did the arrangements think it cost about £69. Anyway Wifes name is Finola so I thought about Finola Gay
but someone said that sounds a bit like a certain airoplane which dropped a certain bomb, so I just called
it "Finola" after my wife. Easier on the Phonetic than Zonnebloem too.

When i bought my first boat i was told by an old salty sea dog that you should name it after your daughter otherwise it was bad luck.

I've been meaning to rename mine "Procrastinator" but I keep putting it off.

The main thing is how it sounds over the VHF. Will anyone understand it, will you have to phonetically spell it all the time and will you sound like a twat.
My personal advice would be to use wife's name or variation thereof. Apart from racking up numerous brownie points for this statement of undying love, she can never complain in the future about going out on 'her' boat

Well we had the same problem when we got our Fairline Mirage. When we bought her she was called Jaset which was a sort of amalgamation of the previous owners kids names.
So that was no good.
Spent ages trying to think of suitable names, in the end we found the following site. Printed off all the names, there's about 1,500 here to choose from, then we both ticked off the ten we liked best then put them on Post It Notes dotted all round the house and after a week both came to the same conclusion - hence we called the boat "Post It Note"

Well not really, but a good punch line eh?

True. So our boat is called Diana=4zillion brownie points...but wonder what Deleted User's exotic wife is called if the boat is called "Sumianda"? Or praps she is called Broom? Or has a broomstick haha. Oh sh!t that's the brownie points gone...

This is entirely cringeworthy but I can legitimately blame my mother in law who suggested the name so more brownie points were on offer. It is an amalgam of my wife's name, Suzette, my son's name, Andrew and mine. As the alternative suggestion was 'Broom Broom', you can understand why I went for Sumianda

cringeworthy indeed! "Suzette" a load more worthwhile name imho.

Note: final advantage of using wife's name (and no derivative thereof) is that you validly send them to get things/people whilst you hack away at fingers down below and they command instant attention for someone to come and look at boat, deliver whatever and so on. viz:

-Suzette.

-Suzette!
Er right well that figures er gulp er obviously we'll be along immediately ma'am...
