New Merry Fisher 695 on the way..

haha,, I asked what it was.. Apparently it's a loop near one of the forward cleats that you could put a chain and lock through.. In case you want to lock the boat to the mooring.. Don't see why you couldn't use the towing eye to do the same thing..

Ah thanks for finding out. I can now sleep at nights again :)

Do you have an eta? I'm really interested as it sounds pretty much what I want my next boats to be.

ETA is supposedly second week of July.. Should get to the dealer in the first week and then they will need a week to prep it and setup the trailer..

I think it's going to be a great boat, all the facilities we want in a towable size and considering the conditions I had a sea trial in it's a very capable boat as well..

I'm interested in your reasoning behind opting for the 175hp as opposed to the 150hp?

Purely because I am just specking my own 695 and can't decide which to go for. Just trying to weigh up power versus economy etc.

I also debated it long and hard..

A few reasons swung me to the 175hp in the end (maybe not all valid but was my thinking)..

1) The 695 I went on a sea trial on had the 175hp and it felt really good, even "sporty".. Haven't felt it at speed because it was very rough with big swells and troughs.. When we did want to get on a plane it was effortless.. When climbing a wave as you nudged the throttle to power over/through the power was immediate and there was plenty more if it was needed (we were lightly loaded with just two on board and half fuel) so if heavily loaded I am sure there would be plenty power on tap which I like the idea of.. Really don't like feeling I don't have enough power..

2) The Yamaha 175hp is a new model (last year I think) that is based on the 200hp..

3) Dealer said they had tested it and could sit on a plane at 22kn at about 3000rpm.. Most I believe run their outboards at about 4000rpm when cruising.. I liked the idea of lower cruising rpm which probably means a quieter ride and less wear on the engine (in theory)..

4) Spending that type of money I didn't want to feel like I was cutting corners.. I know it's about £2k extra but overall it's not that much for the second most expensive item after the boat it's self..

I am sure the 150hp would also be a great match for the 695..

Congrats on your new boat, are you using it for fishing or just days out?
Just for days out and simple cruising to local destinations up and down the coast and over to the IOW, a weekend on board hear and there..
My Dad likes the idea of fishing so will have to get a rod and some bits and he can sit out on the back and try his luck.. :)

Personal preference but given your pref for cruising, I got carpets cut and bound for the cabin for over the wooden floor and IMHO it takes it from utilitarian/fishing esk to a homely comfortable cruising boat. All personal taste mind you but I love the difference and used the time between order and delivery to have them ready for fitting at launch day.

That's exactly what I said I wanted to do the other day.. Did you get special "marine" carpet or just the standard house stuff?

Only issue I though of is it might slide around a bit.. Do you have any issues?

Lol, great minds! I went for good quality house carpet but felt backed so as not to mark wood. Then needed to add rug gripper, which was cheap from a discount store, and it has worked a treat. I had intended to then order better quality gripper but the cheap stuff works a treat. Even the dealer was blown away by the difference and raised it with Jeanneau in Poland as a potential new option.

Honestly I haven't asked the question yet about what they will charge at Rockley.. My brother launches from Baiter and says it's pretty cheap but I believe the slipway is not very steep so I would probably have to reverse right out into the water for this size boat..

Thanks for the heads up on Cobbs.. Didn't know they had a public slipway so will have to check that out..

I think this will be a whole new mission of discovery having a boat on a trailer and having to launch and recover it.. Last boat I launched and recovered on a trailer was a 18ft bow rider when I was about 19.. :)

Also there is a good slip next door to Cobbs - in Davis' Boatyard - I'd be amazed if they charged £40 or anything like for that - but it's not a bad slip at all - I launched a 24' Fairline Weekend on a very poor trailer there quite easily.
