Hi Everyone

My boat arrived today
Puffin1.jpg

It needs a bit of a clean and tidy, but I've already been out for a chug and I am very happy

Puffin2.jpg

The diesel engine looks like it needs a 'bit' of work

so for now I'll just stick with an electric outboard

its just for me an the kids to potter about on the canal with, so I don't need anything more powerful than that.

cheers
Jerry

Welcome. That'll scrub up well. Just out of interest, what is the engine?

Wellnot sure , but early Mirror class were fitted out with a Volvo engine I recall ; a massive lump that also served as Ballast

That East Coast Sailor had one I recall in his Mirror ; think that he was not a fan of the Thump Thump Thump from the engine though ; but early UTube Video Footage showing MIRROR Rallys shows just how effectively the VOLVO ropelled the Stought MIRROR along

I think the diesel is a Volvo MD1

The electric motor is a Bison 68lb
68lb Electric Outboard Motor

I'm running it off Halfords leisure batteries, The one I used tonight only lasted a couple of hours though, so I might have to rethink that.

Maybe worth cleaning up the Volvo after all!

As I recall it, Dylan was more bothered by the absence of Thump Thump Thump, and then later when there was Thump Thump Thump he had gearbox gremlins and no Whirr Whirr Whirr from the propellor.

I got the impression he took against it at an early stage, and refused to have anything to do with it, leaving it to various folks who kindly effected repairs for him, and hence never got to grips with it to get it properly sorted out.

As I've said before, I have rather a soft spot for Mirror Offshores.

Good pedigree……vandestat……and The Daily Mirror newspaper

I used to work with a very large lady who had amazing dress sense. Her clothes, together with accessories such as scarves, really suited her and made her look very elegant, despite her considerable size.

I'm always reminded of her when I see how Van de Stadt's masterful touches make such a short and tubby boat look surprisingly pleasing to the eye.

(Or at least my eye!)

I hate to admit it on a sailing forum, but she's going to be on the Grand Union Canal around Milton Keynes.
Apologies . I stand corrected. Single pot hand cranker with starter also. All coming back to me now. Second boat, a leisure 23sl had the md2. I think.
