New Marine Diesel on the way

I'm slightly bemused by the question of colour and tax. Why cannot all maritime diesel be white and sold at taxed prices? Commercial users can then reclaim the tax paid in the same sort of way that they reclaim VAT input, or simply set the price of full tax fuel against revenues, in the same way that they currently do with tax-reduced fuel. It's really a question of accounting, rather than a battleline upon which the British mariner must stand or fall.

I don't know whether there is red diesel anywhere in France but what you propose is exactly how it's done in the marine sector there. I recall seeing a notice in L'Aberwrach advising fishermen that the duty fuel petrol would be on sale on a certain day and time.

I suspect the current system is the simplest to administer and the cheapest to install and likely the least risky fraud wise since the volumes sold to us yotties must be way smaller than for the commercial fleet

Quite - why all this fuss about commercial fishermen.
Do you all sail out of Hull or Grimsby or ... ?

On the Orwell there are 5 marinas selling red to how many commercial fishing vessels?

Life was so much simpler when I had my Pegasus and a outboard motor  , maybe it was noisier and I had to change a plug or two during the season but was a lot easier than all this red/white/tax/no tax /bio/non bio/hi sulphur/lo sulphur stuff ....... God ! It's enough to do ya head in
Think I will go back to the Pegasus !!!!
