Very strong talk going on down Maldon way.
A new marina is to be built in Maldon opp the park, opp where the barges ramp up.

Heard this from a lot of locals, and they seem quite sure of this talk.

Only prob i see is , if you pay a lot of money for a marina berth i guess you would want water all the time, me thinks.
Also getting very shallow down there, as silting up..

Not my gossip, but a number of locals claim this could happen.
Any one hear any news on this ?

No doubt it will be serviced by the new International Airport planned for Osea!

I am afraid you have been misinformed old boy !

Osea is up for better things.

A 15 foot dyke is to be built on the old causeway from Osea to the sea wall.

On the other side, same thing, but with a sea lock.

The enclosed area will have a minimal depth of 6' at all times.

Any sailor who may think he has a drink problem, can stay on the island until his mates pick him up on the way back. Fully cured.

The area will be known as Maldonmere and will knock spots off any Dutch equivalent.

I hadn't realised it wasn't the 1st of April.:p

I know it sounds daft, but if you look at the site from the new housing developement at Hall Road, you get a different perspective.
If you've bought a posh new house with a river view, how nice to be able to keep your yacht in front of it, even if it doesn't go anywhere!

that probably means MOBO's , they just sit around in marina's these days looking posh with the price of diesel so tidal access aint a problem :D

proper yotties would prefer somewhere closer to the sea or at least a tidal window of longer than 90 mins :D:D:D

Digging out mud islands.

Opp where the barges ramp up.
There are some " mud islands" which they say will be dug out.

Locals tell me it was in there local paper.
They say it is all part to build up Maldon.

Then again paper talk is cheap..

Well some serious dredging would be a good starting point, to allow half decent access to Maldon.
What - and let the riff-raff have access to the shallow end? I think not!
On a more serious note, dredging costs money. I doubt the ratepayers would be happy to fund better access for a few yotties and there might be one or two problems disposing of several thousands of tons of toxic mud.
I've got quite used to lurking by Heybridge for enough water to get into my berth and, conversely, watching the incoming for enough to get out.
Part of the charm of the place really :)

Riff raff? oh dear. haha. Maldon's charm relies on a degree of access for boats. I'm sure there are challenges of disposing with mud but it doesn't change the fact that the area has gone too far in the 'silting up' direction and can only have adverse effects on the town.

There is talk that the barges that take daytrippers out, may have to relocate due to the access and time allowed by the tides.
As a boy in the early 70s, they always dregged the channel out,
There was 24 hr access to Maldon then, as it was more of a working town in those days,
Lot of money gets spent in Maldon with the tourists.
My club and members, put a few quid in the area over the season.
Also the caravan sites, there owners also put a lot of cash into Maldon. ( as i do),,
Maldon should take heed..

Maldon-mere...

On the Maldon and Burnham website it says plans for a Maldonmere has been scrapped.
They (the council) have confessed that their plans were some what ambitious!!
So they considered downsizing their grand plan to just a marina.
However, funds won't allow... so they are going to upgrade the pontoon now!!! (perhaps they plan to add a fender at the end of it!!).

Oh well.......
