Hi, details below of a new Camper and Nicholson Marina, no construction started as yet.

Ermioni Marina in Greece set to open in 2014
Camper & Nicholsons Marinas has been appointed to operate the new Ermioni Marina, south of Athens, which is scheduled to open for the 2014 season.

The marina will accommodate 127 yachts up to 65m (213ft) in length, and will provide the high quality facilities and service standards that visitors to a C&N marina expect.

Located on the Peloponnese Peninsula about 50NM south of Athens, Ermioni is a stone's throw from the islands of Hydra, Dokos and Spetses and boasts one of the most beautiful cruising grounds in Greece. A site of unparalleled natural beauty and a naturally safe harbour, the marina is set to establish a new benchmark for marina excellence in Greece, blending discretely with its surroundings.

The marina can be reached by road or fast ferry in less than two hours. Its location, only 20 minutes from Porto Heli, Greece's 'Cap Ferat' will provide a much needed five-star facility for villa owners in the area to berth their yachts. For Athens-based yacht owners Marina Ermioni will save the time and money otherwise spent travelling from Athens to reach the region. The marina will have its own bars, restaurants and shops as well as a swimming pool and chandlery.

Camper & Nicholsons collaborated on the design of the marina with the owner and developer, Ermioni Marina S.A. Ermioni Marina S.A. whose principal and management is highly experienced in development within Greece, intends to bring world class marina standards to the stunning town of Ermioni, focusing on a design that will blend with the environment and services normally associated with marinas in other world class destinations.

The President of the board of Marina Ermioni S.A. comments, "With Camper & Nicholsons' pedigree and their international reach, we see Ermioni Marina becoming both a sought-after home port for Athenian yacht owners and a destination for cruising yachts of all flags. We are very pleased to have made this association and are keen to extend our marina coverage within Greece."

James Beaver, C&N's Chief Operating Officer comments, "Our appointment to operate Ermioni Marina follows a consultative relationship that revealed an ideal match between our expertise and Ermioni Marina's vision for the marina. We are delighted to be involved in making that vision a reality."

Construction is due to start within 2012 and will take approximately 18 months, with the opening date scheduled for late 2013 / early 2014.

There is also news coming through of the proposed marina in Porto Heli starting, this will encompass hotel casino and luxury apartments, plus more super yacht berths, according to local council it should be up and running within 2 years, again no construction started as yet, although the old hotel has had awnings and temporary offices/portakabins put in. Will update with more news as it comes in.

Great shame. Another good free one lost. This seems to be a growing trend and soon Greece will be as expensive as everywhere else.

Yes - a great shame, but on the other hand, last time we went there in early May 2011, it was full of run down yachts left for the winter and no space for us at all. There was also a large swell coming in from the north easterly.

Yes, it can get lumpy in the afternoons. We can get into the anchorage with our shallow draught, where it is a lot quieter. An alternative is to go on the south side, where it is quieter, although there can be problems with old moorings and fishermen.

127? Its not enough

I don't envy C&N on this one, a back of the fag packet calculation reveals the gross income will be fairly low even at a 100% premium on existing facilities in the area, so to make it pay the tariff will be very high. They will have it all to do. Don't think we will be able to afford a stop there.

From the information available at present, for those that know ermioni, the football pitch stadium will be office shops the chandlery etc, with the marina in that area, so needs abit of dredging probably.
The original quay ferry stop and port will still be available to charter yachts short stay cruisers and of course the fishermen will keep there own moorings as before, the marina seems to be more for super yachts than anything else,
on the Mandraki side of Ermioni thereis now designated yacht mooring with signs prohibiting fisherman and dividing the moorings. There should be no change to the existing way of cruiser life in Ermioni apart from the odd super yacht moving in or out, there are no plans at present to increase charges, I will keep my ears open and pop into the port police every now and then to see if this changes.

They will cater exclusively for super yachts, and not the mainstream market.

I agree but my knowledge of super yacht owners is that they watch every penny and are harder taskmasters than anyone on this forum competition for their business is fierce. Even at super yacht prices its hard to see an income of over E2.5M per annum, 127 berths is not enough.

I would think that's only the start, at present despite them saying work has started, nothing has happened, football pitch still there and being used,
I would think Camper and Nicholson would have done there sums very well, we will see what happens and if any thing starts.

There is a familiar "edge" to the phraseology used, a bit like the document issued by Messolonghi Marina at it's outset. Probably just me!

It will either be another "Vathi" or another Vouliagmeni. Either way, I hope it doesn't end up as another Trozonia but it just might! If it goes ahead and is 100% sucessful, stand by for Greek marina prices to escalate to UK levels. That would end it for me.
