New Marina at Brightlingsea.. support needed

And of course I don't know anything, having been a local councillor for many years and seeing the way in which many objections do not count in planning terms. For example, a lot of residents' objections to major proposals centre around the noise and inconvenience of construction traffic. As you well know, these objections do not count in planning terms.

Indeed.. I don't like Mrs Smith's proposal because she is nasty doesn't count.
But letters of support are simply added together.. Whilst objections are itemised and appear to have more weight.

So the report will say Highways no objection. Five objections on grounds of potential traffic. Ten opbjections on grounds of environmental impact (even if the MMO and RSPB don't object) Local Councillors then have to ignore their constituency voters and take no notice of such objections. If there is any sort of local objections such as a protest group like BATTLE (who opposed the wind farms on the Dengie) the local politicians will vote it down (even though their own policy they had just passed on the Local Plan supported the application) so they can pass the responsibility to someone else. Meanwhile the poor land owner has spend a fortune getting a planning application together and is wasting money holding assets they can't utilise.

In my experience of local planning matters over some 15 years, applications which are recommended by the planners for approval are unlikely to be refused, even if the decision is escalated to the Council's Planning Committee. The reason is simple; if the planners can't find good planning reasons to refuse an application, then it's most likely to be subsequently approved on appeal. And appeals cost Councils a lot of money.

The Council in your area may be happy to spend money fighting appeals.

We used to be in and out of Brightlingsea a lot, but £30 for no power and no water on the pontoon grates a little. We can be on our own anchor if self sufficiency is the plan...A marina with normal facilities (including the ability to float) would be nice...

Over the last few years it does seemed to have got up quite a bit.

At least you do get shown to a berth personally and will take lines if requested so
fairly labour intensive. I like the water taxi, it makes for a different experience compared to
most marinas . It's probably gone as far as it can with the pontoons and facilities for sea visitors .

Strange that not all existing non Morgan marina berths have been taken up. Perhaps cost/parking issues are responsible. I believe Tendering residents have assistance with parking.

I would consider Brightlingsea as a base if the new marina comes off. When leaving the Colne ,you can go left, right or straight on for excellent weekend trips with minimal tide punching . Like Mersea, it still has some Essex charm too.
