Hi Guys,

I got a leaflet in the post this morning advertising the consultation for the additional lock gate for Milford Marina. Its on Monday 28th at 2pm, I will be in work, so won't be going.

From what I understood from the leaflet, the work would start in March 2013 and be finished by the end of the year.

The up side is it should give lots more lock-ins and lock-outs per tide. I would expect the down side to be fewer locks-ins and lock-outs during the construction phase.

If anyone goes please can they post a report?

Cheers,
David.

MHPA seems to have posted notices to all berth holders. Ours arrived on Tuesday. There has also been a NtM, issued online, mentioning the work.

I've looked at the published lock times, available at http://www.milfordmarina.com/lock-times/?clean=lock-times. They seem standard, i.e one access and one exit before freeflow plus two accesses and three exits after freeflow, at least from April to September. Before April the winter arrangements apply, with fewer accesses and exits.

Presumably the published times will have to be amended at times, for specific works to be carried out. We plan to relaunch our boat during the latter part of February and I'll ask the office how much notice of disruption we are likely to be given.

Milford Lock Update

The official line is that locking will be suspended on three separate days during 2013, to allow installation work. Apparently freeflow will still operate on those days.

The marina website is supposed to be publishing the closure dates when they've been decided.

However I have heard that the preferred contractor's quote is considerably more than the budget, casting doubt on the project. I gather that further quotes are being sought. Presumably this will cause a delay, if the work goes ahead at all.

It will be interesting to see what happens. If I learn anything more I'll post it here.

The proposed works did not start in March as planned. I'm reliably informed that the information I posted in February is correct, i.e. there's a problem with the contractor's costings.

I don't know when the current delay will be resolved. However it seems very unlikely that any significant work will start during the next few months.

Another update on the Lock saga. The Port Authority has announced that "contracts have been let" and puts the cost at £6M. There's no news on the timing. When passing through the lock yesterday there was no sign of work starting yet.

The MHPA story is here:

Regrettably the current YBW forum software no longer allows the proper embedding of links into text, as we previously could.

It looks like work will now start, finish date early 2014:
