New Lens for Lifebuoy Light

Anyone know where I can get a replacement lens for my lifebuoy light. The lens has a crack in it which lets in rainwater. Seems a shame to have to buy a complete new light unit. I think the unit is a Plastimo.

Anywhere, please, but Auto-glass . I'd rather buy a carton full of new lights than go to Auto-glass again :mad:

If the less is plastic, so that the crack can be opened slightly, it might be possible for the OP to do what you suggest himself .

Then you have two choices.
Try to order a new lens from your chandler or try to repair the crack with some super glue.

£14 does not seem a lot of money for a vital bit of safety equipment or even a big dent in a typical boating budget.

Maybe you can find a small jar that you could selotape on. Shiphams fish paste jars were popular at one time for making anchor lights etc

Nobody said chuck it in land fill...... keep it for spare parts for the new one.
 
I was at St Peter Port rafted up as usual, one of our neigbours was French, but owned a Westerly Griffon.

The British boat inbetween had a Plastimo MOB light which kept self-launching and floating behind the boat.

The French Griffon owner said loudly " Is that French ?! " then burst out laughing...

As VicS infers, maybe a MOB light is something worth investing a bit more in, at least until one can find the MOB's PIN number...
 
I had the same split lens cover problem on a Jotron lifebuoy light.

I called Jotron and they sent two replacement covers foc. What service! Their comment was not to overtighten since it causes them to break when later subjected to intense heat from the sun.

The unit, though marketed by Plastimo, is made by a Greek firm called Lazilas.
My experience of Lazilas is that they have a major communication problem or they might not know English.

Having had two of them many years ago I'd not bother with trying to repair, but suggest (if you really feel a MOB light is essential) that you get one of slightly better quality
 
I'm desperately trying to remember whether Creeping Crack Cure is actually an adhesive... Any superglue should fix the crack, but I would suggest that you reinforce the screw area of the lens so that it doesn't stress the dome again. either bind with a strong tape or glue a ring around it. Also start looking for a spare - do you have boat jumbles in the Netherlands? I bought a second-hand light whilst repairing the original (the battery pack broke), so now I carry a permanent spare.
