Thanks for the info... I'm just pulling you up on your spelling of kettles, I know you won't mind because you pulled me up on my spelling a while back.... revenge is sweet ?
Should have gone to Vision Express or summat. Actually I rather like my new version. It reminds me of Dutch gin.

Update....
I know you have been waiting eagerly for this....
After boiling this kettle and leaving it whistle away for around 30 minutes with loads of bircarb in, then doing it again, making sure it didn't boil dry, most, not all of the plastic taste had gone. I think I just have to keep using it. Tea today was most bitter tasting ? but not too plasticy.

We had this on a previous kettle from a chandlery. I think it was a Tempest or Typhoon brand. It tasted of oil or plastic. In the end threw it away.

Our latest kettle is the bees knees and cost a whopping £15 for a very solid kettle from IKEA.
