going over to the island this weekend.

is the new inn still good for seafood, seem to remember something about a change of owner?

any views?

thanks, steve.

Can't answer your question but I do remember getting drunk there for the first ime at the age of twleve in 1965 on, of all thinds, mead - yuk!

I have very fond memories of Shalfleet Creek and remember once counting about a dozen masts, including ketches, yawls &c., anchored in Newtown on an August Bank Holiday and thinking the place had been spoilt. Ahh - them were the days . . .

Do let me/us know what the New Inn's like now - I've got to take a prospective groom there for a jolly in June, but that's another story.

Thanks.

right, can confirm that the new inn is still good...

very nice meal, good people there, very relaxed. bass is ok, but the crab, lobster, and seafood platter is still tops in my book... also a nice pint of london pride (for you townies..)

tried the barley mow.... can't remember who said try it.. but i guess they were having a laugh!

the white mouse inn at chale is also very nice.... and big!

plans to ga back in a few weeks time and try some of the places nearer newport, but for now, you won't go wrong with the new inn, just a short walk up from newtown creek and planty of mooring there too.

shallow draught boats look to be a favourite as you can get furthur up. i'll try that nect time..

steve.

I was in there last summer. The food and beer was very good but I can't agree that it was relaxed. Every table was resevered for at least two parties that evening; some for three. So if you book for 7:30 they will probably want their table back at 9:00 or 9:30. Reserved tables in every possible corner of the floor and only 2 stools at the bar. Can't help thinking they are swinging the lead a bit.

Was there Bank Holiday Sunday eve - got us in despite being full. Good grub and interesting wines. Suspect they are double booked cos they are popular and provide a service. Best pub was the Crab And Lobster in Bembridge - well worth a detour. The wine list outstanding and fairly priced. The Sauvingey wonderful.
