Went and picked up a new impeller for the raw water pump on my Bukh 24. The one I picked up was a Jabsoc direct replacement for my Johnson pump supposed to fit a 12mm shaft, well it would not go on. Out with the calipers and the bush was only 11.93mm and my shaft 11.98. Good job I was on dry land with a track spare.

Good info. - whilst I normally change when servicing I do carry a spare out of habit having experienced failure at sea in the days of a 1GM but, of course, I've never checked to see if it fits.

In that size region, Jabsco list only 12mm and 12.7mm, (1/2"), diameters. If your spare is genuine Jabsco, and under the nominal size, then it's likely to be faulty manufacturing.
I'd ask for my money back.

I have three spares on board - they are all the old ones that I replace every year... There is no visible wear on any of them and I have no doubt that they did not need to be replaced but I do know that they will fit back in and work correctly if needed.

I took it back and got my cash. Ordered new ones from Bukh, they arrived today, and fit. The worrying thing was that it was the correct jabsco part number for my pump.
