I just treated myself to a Standard Horizon HX870. The package contains two "ferrite cores", which look as if they are designed to clip round a cable or similar. As far as I can see (no index, grrr...), the manual doesn't say anything about what they are for. Can anyone enlighten me?

Loop the charger cable through

You might only need them if you find that the charger interferes with a radio nearby. If a radio suffers from hash or some sort of whining etc whenever you plug the charger in, then do as suggested by mlines. You might only find the reference to the ferrite cores in 'fault finding' or some similar section in the instructions so it might not be obvious.

The sort of radio that might suffer interference would be a domestic AM radio. The boats vhf is more likely to be immune to the sort of interference generated and cured by these things. If they are needed, try and fit them as close to the charger as possible. (Less wire to act as an antenna and radiate the interference before the ferrites deal with it. )
