After 6 years of use my Muston HPX waterproofs are showing their age, the red material is bleached, and the salopettes are leaking.
I've bought Musto or Gill breathable for years, but what else is on the market that has the latest technolog and preferable made without "forever chemical"?
I'm not in a great hurry, probably a Christmas present to myself.
Can anyone recommend a next generation brand?

The leak will be sorted by the HPX/Goretex warranty (lifetime!) which is what you paid the extra for.

Decathlon are generally the recommendation for lower cost but equally well made. They don't include the Goretex warranty, but are cheaper to offset that. The cheaper fabrics are usually the same as Goretex these days but with different names and without that warranty. Personally I'll go Musto again when my 10 year old MPX dies, although it's showing no signs of doing so despite a very hard life. Regular washing and proofing is the key to long life on this kind of kit, and Musto have a page dedicated to that process on their site, even telling you which product they use to proof the fabric when new.

Contact Musto, with HPX you have a lifelong Gortex guarantee and they should replace them. A pal did that after 10 years and was delighted with his new kit.

Well this is interesting. I have a old HPX jacket maybe 10 years old , it leaks, was never happy with it , went back to Guy Cotton original waterproofs as I can't fault their reliability, got my first set when I was about 20 years old this is my second set and I've just turned 65. So they don't 'breathe ' but I don't run about much on a boat

The top Decathlon gear is top.

(as here: Men’s Sailing jacket Offshore 900)

We now have two (Mr&Mrs), and very happy with it (3 seasons).

Musto stuff did not really last well (we had a few). Not worth the price tag.
I find the "lifetime" guarantee a bit of a con. It is not "my" lifetime, it is a time decided on by whoever sells you the stuff... Musto/Goretex are not the only ones to indulge in this con.

The Goretex is a lifetime guarantee. They replace extremely old kit all the time if the fabric is at fault. If you wear holes in it then that's obviously not covered - look after your gear!

I beg to differ, my gear gets hammered - well apart from the COVID years, and after eight seasons of summer and winter sailing it is still going strong. Regular cleaning and good storage is the key to any GoreTex material. If you throw it in the locker after a week at sea still damp everything rots.

Which reminds me I need to replace another pair of well looked after sailing shorts!

I'm going with Mullion X500 for my next oilies on the recommendation of some particularly intrepid mariners. Pretty sweaty for doing any kind of work in, but ideal for keeping the chills away on a long watch in northern climes, so depends on your needs.

I have had a Gill suit for years, but found last year that, despite a wash & re-proof the salopettes were no longer waterproof. I didn't want to spend fortune so bought the Decathlon ones, and admittedly it's still early days I'm impressed so far. The fit isn't quite as perfect as my Gill ones but is certainly not a problem and they are warm, dry and comfy.
