Greetings all. I am a new retired American from Fresno California who served my federal government for 42 years and am now living la bella vita in the Cagliari area of Sardinia. I live 5 minutes away from Capitana marina in Quartu Sant’elena and it has been a dream of mine to own a cabin cruiser/yacht to truly enjoy what Sardegna has to offer.

With the help of my favorite AI, I have narrowed down the number one brand and model I would fit best in and would be going in on such a yacht with my new friend who happens to be my landlord at the moment. We have narrowed it down to the.2008-2010 Ferretti 460. Our ceiling is €350,000 and that would be VAT included. We would like to make some if not most of our money back in this expensive endeavor by performing a handful of charters during the summer season, but also renting it out as an apartment while it sits in the Capitana Marina throughout the year, if and when I could find such a beautiful boat, I’m just wondering what the consensus on this form is regarding this model. A fly bridge is a must and a spacious salon with three cabins is also requirement. Thanks for allowing me to come into this forum and I hope to learn much from all of you.

Welcome along, a few members on the Motor Boat forum know the Cagliari area and Ferretti yachts. I'll ask for this to be moved to the Motor Boat forum.

Chartering your boat for reward is a whole massive topic on its own, not to be undertaken lightly.

As mentioned, if you have no qualifications yet, and little experience then chartering is a very very long-road away, regardless of the necessities of the boat side of things.
Renting her out may be an option, but I'll say right out now you've got to not care one bit for your boat.
Boats and boat finishes are not like houses and hotels and the level of deterioration may be an issue.
You may be ok with that, and I may be wrong about the level of wear and tear, but be very cautious about having 'too much boat' if the finances depend on making money back.
It may be better to buy smaller and cheaper and keep it just for yourself and close friends/family.
Good luck and keep us updated, we love helping people spend money!

Welcome! Exciting new phase in your life.
Good luck with the Italian bureaucracy! My daughter has moved to Sicily and has found that they have made it an artform. I will never moan about the British systems again.

Obviously it's a 👍 for Ferretti from me! Ours is a 165 (56' approx) and we spend about 10 weeks on board with our 2 kids (16 & 11), and the space is good for us. I think a 46' would start to feel cramped spending as much time on board with 4, but if the majority of time was with just 2 of us, with the occasional guests, then 46' would be fine.
