New Engine

What discount should I get on a new diesel engine (~28hp) from list price. I've already been quoted approx 30% for a new Yanmar. Should I get more for supply and fit?

Hi

Depends on the original list price.

We bought a new engine, 29hp, from Thorneycroft, and got a really good deal including mountings and legs designed so it just dropped onto the original bolt holes.

This particular engine is a Mitsubishi core, as used by many manufacturers including Vetus, Sole etc.etc. Thorneycroft delivered it to Barcelona, complete with gearbox, mountings, Vetus feet, 70amp alternator and deluxe wiring harness and panel for just a touch over £4k. Came with a two year guarantee. Works really well, quiet and more power than the original BMC/Thorneycroft T90. Cheaper than anyone else, even the manufacturer in Barcelona!!

They will give you a quote for supply and fix so you don't have all the hassles.

We got 30% on our 28hp Beta; they will also quote for supply and fit. Ours was a touch over 3K - a very good price and quieter and more powerful than our old engine. Ther best thing sbout Beta is that they don't build the engine until you order, so they can make any mods you need to fit your bearers etc. They changed the side for the exhaust and a couple of other things, plus thay fit a large alternator as standard. Delivery is about 3 weeks after order and they are great people to talk to, nothing is too much trouble.
