New Engine bearers. Fitting out problems hopefully overcome.

The exhaust exits on the underneath of the counter sort of almost vertically downwards. When the boat squats under power it goes underwater (just). One of those flap valves wouldn’t work I’m afraid.

I have a similar transom. You can fit the rubber flap type, which should hold up over gravity but they are ugly and there is a question of some amount of back pressure in the exhaust. Never fancied it myself.

In theory it should be possible to have a neat fitting with a unobtrusive valve within but I could not find one when I was looking.

Interesting, on mine the exhaust skin fitting is about 3 inches above the bottom of the transom ie comes out horizontally.

Call me a cheapskate if you like but I’m going for the prize for the oldest and cheapest pot of paint in use. I’ve had this on the shelf for awhile. I don’t know how long but the pricetag was still on there and it said £6.85. I assume it’s still okay so it’s going to get used!
 
Interesting. I replaced our entire exhaust system with a slightly smaller diameter exhaust hose and even put a seacock on the outlet. This was because the engine became flooded with seawater through waves slap in rough weather on the quarter overwhelming the swan neck, the extra large water trap and the high rise exhaust on the engine. It only happened in certain conditions where we had a following quartering sea, but I fitted the seacock on the exhaust in the hope that I will remember to close it if we encountered those conditions again.
I’d fit an electric seacock. Switch next to the engine controls. Expensive but potentially good value.
