New Elan 210 photos

Would be interesting to see how the outboard well works, I wonder if you have to open up the floor to use it .

I like the interior layout better than the 21.7 particularily the loo, my 21.7 had a loo so badly placed it was never used in 3 years.

However looking at it I suspect it will be a lot more expensive than the Benny.

You can see a photo of the outboard well towards the bottom of this page clicky. I'd be interested to see how it works as well!

Apologies if this has already been posted, but here are some photos of the new Elan 210... looks an interesting alternative to the Beneteau First 21.7, or the Etap 21i.

Like it, something I would consider as a next purchase. Wonder if you can dry out with it? That would make it even better.

Brochure says draft down/up of 1.55/0.50m though the bulb sticks out, so it'd roll to one side or t'other. Couple of little beaching skegs would help.

Polars suggest 15kts at 30kts breeze on a broad reach, so buy some brown trousers as well.

For those that are interested in the outboard engine well... there's a video review of the Elan210 here which includes a bit on how the engine is raised and lowered... looks good in a flat showroom, I'm left wondering what it would be like in any amount of chop... it's also not clear whether you need to leave the big cover open or whether remote controls are possible. I think I'd leave the outboard down and take the hit on boat speed.

Interesting but not a cruising lift keeler.

Aimed firmly at the racing market (Its an Elan after all) and is not suited to drying out. Wont sit on stub and rudders like Bendytoy

OB Idea is over complicated and uses up the under sole flubber storage space. No other cockpit lockers visible. Aft berths extend well under side decks so where do the warps and fenders go?

Keel lifting is not clear but probably like a sports boat with a temporary hoist through the cabin top. Then fixed down by bolted cap. Cheap mechanism but not cruiser user friendly.
Makes it a trailable yacht in reality so why bother with any intrusion in cabin might as well have had a fixed fin and bulb.

IMHO If they are selling a lifting keel capability it should have been part of a show demo.

Can you seal the keel box top off with keel raised?
If you cant then you will get rid of that new boat smell and replace it with the worst of low tide......

Humphreys design team... Could do better

Despite all this I wouldnt half like to have a go in one off wind with the asym kite up:D

Bendytoy needs legs, so don't really see much difference there. Agree that OB is a bit complicated. I always thought that Hunter 707s had one of the best systems, but it did rely on having a nice lightweight 2 stroke that you can no longer buy. What I can't figure out is why there are no lockers in the very rear of the cockpit sides. From what I can see from the diagrams there must be a rather large amount of un-utilised dead space there.

I think it could still work as a fast cruising design, but will need to see it in the flesh before making any final judgements.

From talking to folk in the know today, the 210 is essentially a scaled-down version of the 350 with many of the features carried over ... the 350 has just been nominated European Yacht of the Year 2011 so they must have something right! The 210 on show at Dusseldorf is apparently a 'concept' build (only started just before Christmas) and the version for sale will have some refinements. The first batch of 21 boats are on the market for 21,000 euros + options, bringing it to about £30-35k.

I remember bringing up the Elan 310 on here a few years ago and everyone poo pooed it.

I for one love it! I love the design and it would suit me perfectly. The 310 has proven the design and this is basically a mintransat with a bit of luxury.

The O/b well is a bit weird but with a boat that small, you can treat it like a dinghy and do some "proper" sailing skills. Just do everything under sail, it'd be a lot easier.

I'd hazard a guess it is to discourage the owners from putting weight in the ends of the boat. Or just assuming they wouldn't do it and lockers there would be unused.

The little extras..

Looks great. Although according to the list I found "everything" is extra. I got up to 11000 Euros before I stopped counting

Looks great

Having sailed a similar but more conventional Argentinian Barcos del Sur, based on the Del Plata 21 the last few seaons on the Solent, it's great to see more manafacturers entering this sector of the market. I'm really looking foward to seeing the Elan sailing this season along with maybe the Polish built Storm. I thoughly enjoy sailing this type of boat and it would be great to share the Solent with a few more 21 footers.
