The throttle controls on my 2003 Fairline Targa 52 are a bit dull looking and years of salt corrosion has them feeling a bit rough in the hands.

I'd quite like to replace them. I can see on eBay the type of control ...

Couple of questions...

1. Will the above controls work with my boat given they look the same as the ones I currently have or are there variations? I have D12-615s in the boat?

2. I'm moderately handy - I assume there's just a molex plug underneath these - can I replace myself?

3. Are there other options?

Thanks!

I'm sure somebody will know for certain but I believe the answer is yes, they are just potentiometers and there is a simple procedure for matching them to the rest of the system once connected. They use Deutsch connectors.

I would just check the part numbers for your specific model on marinepartseurope.com.

The housing is held on with four bolts, you'll need an 8mm deep socket to get the nuts off. Once the nuts are undo a firm pull on the control body will free it from the waterproof gasket that fits between the dash and the control body.

There are just two plugs underneath, easy to undo. Mark the throttle body though so you know which pot is port and which is stbd if refitting the original unit.

It is an easy replacement as everyone says, although you'll need to do a recalibrate after fitting a new unit. Personally I'd follow jrudges suggestion and just clean up the old one - take it all to bits and refinish the housing as desired. Easy.
