New dredger for the Medway

Ooo that looks posh.Is there another bit to go with it . ?
You could start immediately above lock gate adjacent the ice cream kiosk, my depth alarm now always goes off as we exit lock. :)

Yep - start with the busiest bits then go from there :-)

Medway Squirrel

No prospect of a quick go along the moorings in Maidstone Town centre outside the House of Frazer ?
Almost impossible to stop there now without touching the bottom. Worse the further upstream you go towards bridges.
Or is this a "SEP"
Somebody Elses Problem .:)

Very impressive.
Presume you already have a very good idea where its first job will be ?

Road transportable....We'll be having those for The Thames then:)
You won't be needing them Old Git,you think dredging is a waste of time, money and effort :):)

Well, he believes what the EA told him - that all rivers became self-dredging on the day the EA where created. Sadly it took the PoW to point out that they were talking (insert Royal word for bull****). This investment shows that the EA have reversed tack (that and the huge number of diggers now at work in Somerset).

EA - you were wrong, you have been proved wrong, and now this investment shows that you knew all along that you were wrong.

Rant mode off.

I look forward to seeing this and/or others correcting your neglect.

Nice Rant. Total cant of course. Our nice new dredger replaces a rather worn out piece of kit, which did sterling service not preventing the flooding of Yalding over many many years. It did however allow one to take ones boat to Tonbridge without touching a rather rocky bottom .
The river which has the largest catchment area in England ?,was used to transport all sorts of industrial goods from wood pulp to coal. Special barges and tugs were even built to get the goods from one part of the county to the other.
The depth of the river required to float this little fleet would have required constant and continued dredging. Despite this all the towns along the Medway were constantly and continuously flooded.
Maidstone was a nice example. Halfway up the hill used to be several little stone markers built into wall denoting flood water marks going back to the turn of the last century.
Sometimes it rains and no amount of scraping a few inches of the bottom of a nearby watercourse will prevent people living on a flood plain getting their carpet wet. :)

I say....I hope you are not suggesting that the EA are wasting money by moving a few rocks about in a muddy ditch in the middle of nowhere just so a few pleasure cruisers don't damage their egg whisks.
The EA are having a hard time of it at the mo
:)

You may think that...I could not possibly comment :)

There has always been regular flooding in the Medway catchment. Most serious major flooding was in probably 1968.
Possibly even worse than the recent event.
Google search brings up loads of old news photos of Maidstone and Tonbridge completely inundated with flood water.
Curiously very little blame appears to have been levelled at the authorities, perhaps citizens were more self sufficient and practical in those days and just got on with things.
No bleating about the council not supplying sand bags on Twitter and Faecesbook in those days ....Tally ho. :)
