New Domestic Batteries Required - recommendations please

After a couple of nights away from the shore power (w/e in Yarmouth) my suspicions about the life left in our domestic batteries was confirmed. They are shot! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Thankfully the nice new shiny engine start battery did its thing and we got fired up OK and had a good run home. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

But I need to get two new 110Ah batteries approx size on plan 350x175mm to fit in the exisiting trays. The existing batteries are black and un-branded except for sticker which says "TYPE 679 110AH"

Recommendations for types, costs and supplier in the Southampton / Portsmouth area would be welcomed or a good on-line / mail order company would be considered but I would like them ready for next w/e.

my previous boat has them for 3 years and they still look good
and other friends have them for over 5 years plus now

Buy starting batteries here, still good for auxilliary work and in a pinch can still start your engine. I have a bank of 3, one dedicated to engine, two for the rest, every year or so I replace one, fitting the new one for engine start and moving the others over, disposing of the oldest. Never any problems.

Hello Mike,

I fitted a pair of new batteries to my 315 on Friday. Like you I replaced a pair of 110ah. I got them from UK Batteries on 0845 063 9999. The part number was SD6110L. I paid £80 plus VAT each. They fit into the 315 battery boxes perfectly

We've just spent the weekend on batteries off Lymington with fridge running etc and lights on last night. I fully expected to be connecting the generator up this evening to put a bit of charge back into them. I don't think the starter motor has ever turned over so quick so I'm pretty happy.

Friend of mine who worked in the battery manufacturing industry for years reckons that there is a certain amount og 'get what you pay for'. His view was always 'if it has a 2 year guarantee, expect it to last just over 2 years..." etc.

Ian - I guess it should be no great shock that both our boats need new batts at the same time, same boat, same engine, similar age etc etc !!!
