I don't recall seeing any comments in Buttlescutt on the proposals for the new marina in East Cowes. Plenty of discussion about a reshuffle of berths at Yarmouth, but nothing on the plans to create several hundred new berths in Cowes. I believe a planning decision is imminent, so it does appear that action is finally under way.
Do any of our IoW forumites know what is really happening?
What does the team think of having another big marina there?
 
Is this behind the new breakwater in front of the old GKN building - Port side at the Medina entrance?

First Yarmouth, now Cowes. Another idyllically peaceful harbour to be ruined by overdevelopment. We can only hope that Southampton will retain its olde-worlde charm for a little longer.

I think you must be a local you know the places so well! ;) They'll be ruining that quaint, little known, uncontrived pub called the Folly next.
 
Actually, both the Cowes and Yarmouth developments finally went to the planning committee meeting for decision at this afternoon's meeting.

Both projects have been reviewed by the respective planning officers and the reports they submitted to the committee for consideration are on the internet. I will post them if I can make the pdf small enough.

Unfortunately I could not attend (they are public meetings). I do have a good excuse though as I was out sailing. 32knots wind, driving rain, lovely!

Anyway, I have a friend who was at the meeting so I am trying to find out what the decisions were. Will let you know ASAP.
 
Sorry, I couldn't make the file small enough. For some strange reason the forum only allows pdf's of 19.5kb. That's not enough for a blank page!

Anyway, the report from the planners recommend approval of the Yarmouth plan, and conditional approval of the Cowes one. Whether the committee agreed with their own staff remains to be seen.

back to the original - looks like Yarmouth is off my list now ... shame - the number of affordable overnight stays in the solent has decreased again.

Actually, you should find Yarmouth is better for you now.

1. If you want a walk ashore berth there will be more of them.
2. If you want the cheaper non walk ashore berths you will find them less crowded. The majority of visitors want walk ashore, so they won't be crowding the north visitors pontoon and pile moorings.

As the report says, there will still be the same number of visitor moorings. It is only the proportion of walkashore versus non walk ashore that is changing.

Stop trying to pretend. The commissioners are gonna turn Yarmouth into a marina. Next, modern townhouses overlooking the floating boat park. Then maybe restaurants and coffee shops with names like China Joe, Dilly's and Steakbite.
