Sooner, rather than later, I'm going to need a new over-the-boom cover for my 18' halfdecker.

Does anybody have any recommendations for a supplier up here in the North-West (N. Lancs). I want a suitably "traditional" feel to the thing - nice 'canvas' and solid detailing, not some vinyl and bungee bodge-up.

Hi there

I know he is not based in the North West, but for the look you are after, I would suggest North Sea Sails in Tollesbury, Essex. Steve Hall did a great job on an over boom cover on my 15ft clinker dinghy. I was able to select a light colour canvas type material (it is actually acrylic) from a range that included a number of muted traditional colours. I too was keen to stay away from a bungee and plastic job. Nice brass eyelets etc. His number is 01621 869367. Made me a lovely set of sails as well!!

Hope this is of use.

Based on the all over winter cover that he made for me last year, and the cover on a friend's Drascombe, I entirely agree.

I had a brilliant green duck canvas boom cover made by Russell & Chapple of London - It was a few years ago mind & they now seem to specialise in theatrical stuff - talk about diversification ! Canvas is lovely stuff, very soft on the varnish & paintwork & lasts forever if moderately well looked after. Might be worth a call just to check on prices.
