i have just constructed a 'fedge'. for those of you who have never heard the term (as i hadn't till last week) it's a cross between a fence and a hedge made using a technique called 'living willow' where you weave a basket-like structure out of green willow rods, sticking the ends into the ground.

supposedly the rods then take root and grow together where they touch. gardeners make windbreaks and tree-huggers make igloos so i wonder about making a boat. imagine a one-piece wooden boat grown to exactly the shape you choose.

now where can i get some nice green teak rods??

<now where can i get some nice green teak rods?>

But how do you know your great great great grandchildren will want to sail it?

heard of a boat called 'SOKI' (Spending Our Kid's Inheritance)

i'll be buried in it, viking style. let them grow their own.

So how do you get the 2-hulled bit ? /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Of course, it it's a deciduous boat, there is the advantage that you'll have plenty of leafage for the sails in summer. The downside is that you'll have no sails in winter and the risk of having them blown away in autumn...

Personally I like the idea of digging a hole in the ground, putting some sheet metal in and then dynamiting the lot to the shape of the hole.

Was it in New Zealand (or Belfast) they built them like that?

I once read that they could make plates for false teeth that way.

No - not directly, they take a cast of the inside of your mouth, then make a cast of that and then do the dynamite thing with a sheet of stainless steel in the second cast.
