New Car NB

Re: Up to date prices...

Go for the Corsa, my garage lends me one when my car goes in for service (SAAB), they are great to drive, like on rails. Its only a petrol so the oil burner will be much beter!

What does TOP GEAR know about cars anyway, they only promote the cars that come with the biggest brown envelopes!!!!! (probably)

let's not forget this is a car for a learner. 'fun', 'cool' etc. are bad words for learners and more so for newly qualified drivers.

one of my daughters learned on a diesel school car but when going out for practice in our old petrol polo she stalled it every time. turned out she had been told to pull away with foot completely off the throttle. as long as you don't do it too fast for the governor to catch up it works fine.

Used to have a golf as a company car when I lived in Germany, was glad to get rid off when I got a Opel(Vauxhall) instead. Looked at getting a diesel golf for my wife at one point, but she hated it and ended up getting a diesel Astra instead.

We use an elderly L-reg diesel Cavalier, red painted. Have they changed the paint quality in last few years? Ours faded so much it look as through it had been sprayed with water colours.

Otherwise, good car, very economical. Apart from a few minor self-inflicted wounds, the repairs haven't been too bad. I'd go for another one, but not sure that this would find favour at home.

Down to personal choice really, in last job used to use lot of hire cars, most engineers prefered vauxhalls rather than fords or the likes of peugeots and volkswagens, yet in most tests they're supposed to be better, remember years ago when 405 first came out, most car magazines said it was much better than a cavalier during the roadtests, but different story during the long term tests.

also, better head height in the Cavalier cf 405

Great little car Jimi. Bought my daughter one this year, her first diesel and she's staggered by the MPG. She'd had all sorts before but she likes this one so much she drives it every day and thinks it's the mutts nuts. Best thing about it for her seems to be that it's easy to see around the front much better than most cars she's had so feels really confident in it. get her to test drive one, pretty sure she'll like it if my girl is anything to go by.
