This is marking an artificial reef created when an artist called Simon Faithfull today sank a small boat about a mile offshore

Here is the artist on board the vessel contemplating his work...

He then opened the scuttles and set fire to it...

And jumped overboard....

All that is left is the buoy...

and you can get live video streaming from the onboard cameras (yes working underwater) from http://reeflive.org/

They are driven by solar panels mounted on the buoy.

The MCA not listed in the credits on the website then - was this an official thing or some idiot imposing his idea of 'art' on the rest of us.

Are they going to chart the clearance depth over the top of this thing ?

"Official" as in governmental? No I think not. I understand they had to have lots of permissions but possibly MCA was not one of them.

The chart (and yesterday my depth sounder) shows 20m to the bottom in that area and looking at the first picture it's maybe 6m(?) from keel to top of masthead so it won't be a problem to most of us...

As to the "art" aspect, well he seems to be able to persuade people to part with lots of money in his direction and that is an art...
