I agree with you. The cost of 'Getting it wrong' must be a great expense for the dealers and the manufacturers. To be fair all requests have been dealt with politely and in the end have been resolved but it seems to be just 'business as usual'. Whilst I realised that new boats have teething problems I hadn't quite realised the extent of them. This was my first new boat purchase.I do however still love the boat!!

During summer had the pleasure of a trip to Nice to reattach the aft cabin roof of me mates Targa 37.The aformentioned item had detached itsself from its proper location and fell onto the floor, and yanked all the wiring lose in the process.
Would have thought that the odd wave or two should not result with stuff falling off.
Buying a new boat.May the force be with you.

Alarming how standards are allowed to deteriorate over the years. My Targa 31 is 7 years old (8 next March). Had a few mechanical problems, mainly due to lack of maintainance by previous owners I reckon......but the hull and fancy bits inside seem to have been built and put together really well.........."like a brick ****house" in fact.
Took her from Guernsey to Salcombe in a FORCE 4/5 last year....journey took in excess of 5 hours due to the conditions....hurt me like hell ... SWMBO cried for 3 days ......and the boat ???...........nothing more than 2 little deckhead lights came adrift.........Sealine S41 that accompanied me suffered detached fridge and shower doors........
Maybe Fairline build some of their boats on a Friday afternoon!!!!!????.....but mine aint one of them.

ummm...well...has the shower door fallen off yet? It will if you go out in anything other than a flat calm.

What else

>Fairline have changed the fitting so that it cannot drop off as per the earlier models

Hmmm...

The pole to hold the tender garage open for long periods or if the locker above is full of fenders/liferaft etc will fall off and then roll out and into the sea as soon as you open the gagage door. This is because it is secured by two rubbish clips to the UNDERSIDE of the garage roof and therefore has gravity trying to pull it off at all times (or a wave in anything other than flat calm).

Hmmm....

>Will secure - thank you.

Cupboard door support struts will be either too stiff or too loose and therefore cupboards will either be a bugger to open or fall on you head when open.

Hmmm...

> Agree

Your legs will be continually caught on the seat adjustment handle when standing with the base bolster raised, as it sticks out 3-4inches beyond the fixed part of the seat base.

Hmmm...

> Thanks

Don't leave either a) the bung in the dingy over the winter or b) if you do leave the bung in, don't leave anything that doesnt like to be totally submerged in the dingy, as it will be full of water fed into it fromt he drian holes positioned directly above it, rather than the the side where the water would then drain into the bilges and be pumped out (as opposed to sitting in the dingy).

Hmmm...

> Has moved.

Don't put the boarding ladder down as it will be a total bugger to get back in again.

Hmmm...

> Thanks

Other than that it should all work well, so not bad considering all the things that could go wrong. Just a shame that (as with most british boats) when you look behind the gloss it's much shabbier that you'd hope for the money, but just don't show your guests those bits!

I have been into most areas and have been very impressed with the attention to detail - The fire protection for the bow thruster for example.

Sorry to hear that you have had such awful problems. The issues I have had are minor:-

1. The Cover for the Raytheon Screen had a mark on it.
2. The water pressure was a bit low so the shower was erractic
3. The TV aerial didn't work.

All fixed within a week.

Who is your dealer? I got mine from Peters in Chichester - who I must say have been the best I have experienced with the 8 boats I have owned so far.

Well it's good to see that they ae rectifying some problems. We have eventually had the new type of shower door rail fitted, but as yet have not been out in a rough sea to test it, but it does look like it will work much better.

As for the pole, If I were you I would move it so that it sits in its clips on the flat section of moulding next to the dinghy. That's where ours will go if we get a replacement.

But generally agree that it is a great boat. Is v well thought out in most areas and after a season and a half all seems to work well. After all there are only those 4 or 5 faults out of hundreds more potential ones.

Enjoy...

I'm delighted to say that MY Fairline has had none of the problems you mention.

Mainly because
a) It doesnt have Radar
b) It doesnt have a shower
c) It doesnt have a TV let alone an aerial

So maybe all these extras are just designed to keep you busy.

I bet it did have em when new, but all been sorted by previous owner(s).

One of the big advantages of not buying new is that all the niggly bits will have been sorted (as long as it was owned by a boaty type at some point).
