New Boat

The Sea Feather is a fantastic bit of kit but not sure it is up to the displacement of a V36. A Hydrovane would look the part!
From my experience in using Wind Vane Steering, probably in the region of 40K Nautical Miles. The size of the boat and the size of the windvane are not necessarily related. The need for strength is really in the ability of the paddle to swing which relates more to the angle that the paddle works at and the water speed. I upgraded from a Windpilot Pacific Light on a UFO27 to a Windpilot Pacific on a Rival 34, both being very well balanced boats I cannot tell the difference in the power with which the boat turns when told to by the windvane. I'm not sure that Peter's Sea Feather is not suitable for a big Vancouver Cutter rigged boat. But it really depends on how easy it is to balance the sails in a variety of conditions.
Personally I don't like the Hydrovane which Peter recommends as it is not as good downwind in light airs as some of the other Windvane steering systems.
When you get around to the Windvane on the list of things to purchase, read this book: http://www.windpilot.com/books/
