new boat!

Oddly enough my grandfather built one around then also! But properly.. none of this stitch and tape nonsense.. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

So that's why I picked the Heron as my first project.

My first boat was Heron no.119, about hrrrrmph 45 years ago. Cost me £50, all the money I had in the PO. Was reportedly built in the woodwork shop of the then Dover Borstal. (No, not by me!)

i quote "none of this stitch and tape nonsense"
the stitch "n" glue technique as used in mirror dinghys is a much stronger construction than its larger sister the miracle dinghy with conventional construction also consider the very light weight phantom a phenominaly strong and fast dinghy.
so why shun stitch "n" glue

Calm down there chief, I'm just saying my Grandfather built his 'old skool', before stitch and glue was widely embraced.

I can confirm having built about half of my Heron, a stitch and glue dinghy is simple to construct and would break through ice, but perhaps it's not the choice of the traditionalist..?
