Hello, really enjoyed reading this forum for a while, helped me make the plunge in the end and get my own boat.

So she’s coming in July hopefully. And now I need to figure where to put her and would love some newbie advice.
We’re often staying on the IoW, so had considered two options:

1. Put her on IoW too. Not much to chose from location wise, and dry stack hard to come by. But means everything on the Island when we’re there. Downside is cant use unless on Island and need to keep using the Ferry for main access.

2. Put her on Mainland. Plenty of choices. But thinking that since a bunch of the time would use her as commuter to the Island, Somewhere like dry stack at Port Hamble would be good, with short crossing. From what I read the other Marinas/dry stack further up, theres the trade off of having easy Motorway access, but long shlep down the Hamble to get out.
Visitor moorings in Cowes seem pretty easy to get hold of. If the weathers pants I’d not be using boat anyways, and would just take Ferry (or stay home!).

Any word of wisdom or factors I’ve missed would be greatly received. Many thanks.

I’m pretty sure there is no dry stack at port Hamble. Possibly you are thinking of Hamble point marina? I berth at Mercury yacht harbour and it’s a great place to be. Not too far down the river, takes about 15 minutes to reach the solent. You could look at the dry stack at Universal marina on the Warsaw side of the river, or further down you have deacons, and Swanwick.
Where ever you decide I’d act real fast because Mercury’s only has two 10m berths left, not sure about the other mdl sites but probably the same or worse.
Also you could look at Hythe or Town quay?
Or further along Shamrock quay.

What boat do you / will you have?

There's a dry stack at HYS (just up river from P Hamble).
We're at Swanwick, top of the Hamble or nearly so. Much prefer that to the Hamble marinas near southampton water which have a shorter on the water out to the Solent but the road traffic can be a problem. Dry stack at Swanwich has just been expanded you might get a slot. If you’re interested I can refer you and we share a finders fee. Let me know. ?

Thx for the good pointers. Not sure why I pref dry stack just seems like better option until I know how much time on water I’ll get. And good point on the traffic maybe then better trade for a few mins on the river, which I guess would open up Portsmouth options too.
Boat coming Axopar 22 :p:p:p cant wait.
