Looking at services around the Brighton area, I can't see a gas fitter to do a bit of maintenance prior to me picking up my new (to me) yacht. Also, I'd like an engine service as I can't get down to do it before I pick her up.

Does anyone know of a local gas fitter and good engineer for a Perkins?

Dave

Mick West (in Brighton marina) installed my new Beta engine and I was very satisfied with them. No idea if they work on Perkins. I used a gas fitter 10 years ago - the company was G P Barnes in Shoreham - very competent work but no idea if they still do gas work.

Snap, but I thought that they were both expensive and didn't get it right first time, which cost a shed load of more money for another month in Brighton.

I believe Barnes (they are at Lady Bee marina in the port at Southwick) still do gas work, they certainly stock all the parts. If they don't, Graham Barnes will know somebody.

Lancing Marine are very good but I think they really do larger powerboat engines, not yacht auxiliaries.

For the engine, give Mike Stevens a ring (http://msyachtrigging.co.uk/). He's a nice chap, good rigger and will put you in touch with a reputable marine engineer that went solo after SSL closed shop. Alternatively try Mick West marine (entrance facing the boatyard). Never used them myself, but haven't heard anything bad either.

No idea about gas. Good luck with the new boat :)

+1 for Mick West. They serviced our Perkins 4108 just recently and seem to have done a good job although we haven't taken the boat very far to test it...just up and down to the pier and back. Can also recommend Neil. He did our seacocks when he was working for SSL. Nice guy.
