Hi chaps
Put the deposit down on a regal 2550. It was bought new from the dealership in May this year, due to illness the guy had to sell it on brokerage with the same dealer so it's 3 months old with 2 hours on the clock!

I'm going to collect in about 3 weeks. Before I pay in full should I be asking to see the original invoice to ensure the VAT has been paid? Is there anything else I should be asking for, it's a lot of money and only my second boat so I'm a bit unsure.

Thanks in advance guys!

Congratulations. Exciting times. Yes , make it a condition of the purchase that you receive the original sales invoice. Also ask for the Operators Manual.
No doubt one or two brokers will be along shortly giving more information.

Have you had a sea trial ?

Hi bee jay

Thanks for the advice, do you think I should ask for that before I pay the rest of the balance? The broker has confirmed on an email the vat has been paid and that he would provide this, however he implied this would be after I had paid in full.
No I haven't had a sea trial, I thought maybe wrongly, that with 2 hours on it would be ok.

Quite often you cant get to view the original bill of sale until after you have paid because the seller/broker dont want you to see how much the original buyer paid for it. As long as the broker has confirmed that the document is available, I wouldnt worry about it, especially on a boat so new.

It may well be a.OK but don't pay anything til you have seen all you want. Broker should be able to scan you the original invoice and that is all you will get re vat.
Dealer broker whatever has a big interest up to the point they have your money when the risk is suddenly on the other foot.
Meantime get what you want..invoice,service record, warranty details, size of inside leg....don't be a pita, but don't get carried away in the excitement....keep that head cool.

Cheers guys for the info. I have now been told I might need a specialist trailer for a stepped hull??

Krikey hard work this boat buying stuff

Hi mark, see your north west like me. Where a abouts do you boat?

I keep it on the drive, tow it where ever we fancy. I from your way, spent a lot of my youth on the ski slope.

I have towed an olderstepped hull Regal in the past, no special trailer needed. Speak to a few trailer dealers, the Regal is a popular boat, they will be able to tell you what you need.

I really think that you should have a run out in the boat to check that it is running OK before you pay the balance. It might be almost new but with boats that is no
guarantee that everything is working properly. Don't want to spoil the party but caveat emptor.

Surely @ 3 months old it's fully covered under the boat and engine manufacturers warranties ? Not everything works on many new boats, but when everything ( made by reputable suppliers) is under warranty surely there is no financial risk ? The only risk is downtime when the boat maybe cannot be used. If it's that bad then it's rejection/ ask for your money back time

Congrats pbarx. Looks very nice and mint

All this talk of "get the doc before you hand over money" and "insist on a sea trial" is out of place if you have already executed the contract, as I suspect you have. The time to put your conditions into a deal is before you make it. Remember also your contract is with the seller not the dealer

Of course, if you can get all the original paperwork then do. It hardly matters in the real world because HMRC are not going to pursue you for any VAT. But when you come to sell the boat people will read internet forums telling them to get VAT receipts so you'll have a harder time selling the boat if you don't have complete paperwork

Looks a lovely boat. Someone will be along soon to tell you that you should have bought a diesel one. as long as you have easy access to petrol, t's not true at all! The maintenance costs of a petrol engine are very much cheaper than a diesel one..................................

..............................and in my experience, 12 years with EFi petrol engines; no breakdowns, then the first year with a diesel. Less than 1 hour use so far, diesel reliability or at least that of their their overcomplicated electronic controls is overstated !

It is a big boat for a trailer.. you'll probably need a full blown 4*4 , and I don't mean some town version. SBS will know Regal. The issue is that the trailer rollers hold the boat on the step on the hull, so you just need some big trolley type wheels to lift it over.
