Just wait till it starts going horribly wrong and you're trying to be diplomatic and gentle while relying on Mrs Scala and the fenders to get you out of the trouble you put yourself in. I found sometimes it's easier to be more resigned and shout oops after the fact

One thing that's immediately obvious is that speed is your enemy. Very slow. A gentle bump is probably fine. If things are going pear-shaped, adding more power is unlikely to make things better...

Repeat that when there is a stiff breeze skidding you across the water between the pontoons and all them nice shiny anchors on the berthed boats are reaching out to grab you. That's when you do a Roy and pine for a stern thruster to compliment your bow thruster. Me. I have neither but I do have a very forbearing wife.

Mine is on if I am about to do deck work, and usually remains on under way but that’s mostly because it‘s a shiny new Ergofit that also acts as a corset

It’s actually quite hard to fall overboard from the helm of a 40ft hard-top cruiser in flat conditions - it’s a personal choice.

Well as it was "only" burning 90LPH at 30 kts it's not too bad. Tankful should last me this year

Well it was a very stupid remark. He was far more likely to bang his head than fall out of the enclosed cockpit of a 40ft+ boat. So why did he not criticise him for not wearing a full face crash helmet ?

if he’d have criticised me for being on the foredeck at 30 knots taking a picture with no lifejacket it would have been a more reasonable point. But I’m a grown up and made my choice.
