Thanks! I can sell you an old one at £100k cheaper than any you'll find on the web, if you move fast! New one will be in southampton late January i expact so drop in if you're around
Ooh that's a good idea, namewise. Will think about that....
Dunno timing. I have lots of mods to do to the new boat and prefer to do them in UK. I dont much mind when it gets to Antibes but I'll aim for Feb/March I guess. It'll go by ship, I dont have time to drive it there, much as I'd like to have a go at the forum blue riband Drop in sometime if you're passing, either PV next year or S.Coast UK for a short time before shipping.
They'd be debugged before we set off! They'd need to be, when heading straight for every F10 enroute. You could consider the boat totally debugged of any problems by the time we arrived, always assuming we actually did arrive! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Nice choice jfm. Yes I do love the matt oak, much classier than the high gloss finishes. Can do you a good deal on a new Tecma loo as I seem to have one sitting in splendid isolation in my garage ;-)
Overland delivery eh! It's a bleedin boat, deserves to get there by sea. I'd be on for a leg or two of the delivery trip, could even tow Eos part of the way /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Just a little green with envy! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

exactly the same opinion,
and fancy the interior finish very much,
finally a finish that doesn't look old fashion but still is very classic, not poppy modern.
The positioning of the galley seems also very usefull, the best compromise of all options. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Congratulations !!!
Thanks for that, jfm. Perfectly understandable decision as the Sq58 is one of Fairline's best IMHO. I particularly like the saloon layout which IMHO is better than, for example, Princess boats in this size range. The galley position well aft and facing the cockpit, where you do most of your eating in the Med, is much more convenient than the galley down arrangement used by Princess and I'm a great fan of internal steps to the flybridge which some builders seem to be getting rid of. I must admit I do prefer the darker woods rather than this light oak and, in this respect, I think the AZ58 is nicer but that's purely a matter of taste. Ferretti have gone to this light wood on their latest boats but it doesn't look as nice as your Sq58 partly because they've now also taken the cheapo route of fitting some cupboard doors outside the frame rather than flush which I'm pleased to see Fairline have'nt done.
Did you consider the new Sq55?
Its amazing the number of people I know who have 'repeated' their Sq58 old for new.....
Speaks volumes for the boat. Guy on my pontoon had a 2003/4 sold it for a Falcon (moored in SoF) then came back to Sq58 and spec another new boat a couple of years later - said he knew what to do second time around. Both his boats were/are fab.
Many congratulations, a brilliant boat choice. I looked at both the Squadron 55 and the 58 at SIBS and was very disappointed in the new 55. No internal flybridge steps and everything seemed a compromise just to achieve the mid ship cabin. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif The 58 is the far superior boat (iirc only £30k dearer at list)
Can also recommend that you undertake a delivery trip on her own bum and of course would be pleased to assist /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Yep, jfm usually talks sense but this stuff about not having the time to deliver the new boat to the Med himself is just drivel.
Let's face it,she's going to be wired with more comms capacity than radio caroline. So there's absolutely no reason why jfm can't run the City from his laptop in the corner while we all take a turn at the wheel.
Thnaks. Yep, i looked hard at 55 but overall I think the 58 is better. Some things about the 55 are better of course, but as an overall package the 58 wins imho. On this sized boat, you "pay" too much to get a mid cabin. And personally I spend no awake time in a boat cabin, too claustrophobic. Cabins are for sleeping and shagging, and otherwise you're in other parts of the boat. Not everyone agrees and I might get hit at resale but I dont care becuase I'm not going to have a compromised boat just to get a bit more £££ at resale. Life's too short for that.
I'm not sure where the road transport idea came from! It'll go down as deck cargo on a ship, which is very easy to do. I'd like to take her on her own bum. She has great range (600nm easy) so could do Biscay in a one-er, and no doubt you guys could give me all the routes! But I doubt I'll find time. Remeber, for me the journey wouldn't end just past Gib. I'd have to slog on another 700nm to the France/Ital border pretty much... Also i want to get her down to Med in Feb 09, and the weahter isn't great for an own-bum trip then. Still, I'll think about it!
