New Boat 26ft Bilge Keel under £10000

Thats just an example, there was also an inboard version in the same yard at the same price in a worse state, but it has sold, probably because he accepted what was offered, unlike the one removed from sale.
Whatever the OP goes for it is definitely a buyers market and you don't just have to look at tired old designs to find a 26' bilge keeler within that budget.

I got mine within the same budget just make the offer low and see what happens.

If you're mooring on the Deben a good engine's a must - when you're pushing the spring flood out over the bar you'll appreciate it.

Outboards are not a good option, especially if transom hung, every wave they're out of the water and its no fun fixing them at sea hung over the stern.

keeping out of the tide helps /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.
its surprising how many like to out in the full force of the Flood Gunning their engines /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif.
its the same on the Ore
they don't use the natural eddies to their advantage /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Yes agree with Sailorman keeping out of the main tide, or in the main current (if its going the right way) is a really useful tactick, that you have to learn really quickly when racing dinghes. It still seems really relevant on small sailing boats especially as we only have a 5hp outboard on the Hurley.

Theres always the risk of running aground when hugging the sides of the River, but that just makes it all the more interesting.

Some more advice from the pen of bigmart.

From the discussions about Inboard or Outboard. Inboard is the only way to go. Apart from the motor on the transom problems with Outboards an inboard makes the perfect Generator (Flat Batteries are a thing of the past) unless something goes wrong. There is also the potential for Hot Water (with the right setup). I have a mate with a small lifting keeler & the one thing he confesses to envy on my boat is the Inboard.

Now to upset the lifting Keel protagonists (is that spelt right). This is not true of all applications but a Lifting Keel often encroaches on the accommodation. Bilge Keels offer no such problems.

Often I dream away, thinking of larger boats & then I think of all the small ports & creeks that I can't visit when sailing larger vessels (I occaisionally skipper a 57 footer) & think of the drastically reduced Mooring Fees that a 26 footer enjoys.

I'd still vote for a Colvic & put the money saved to some enjoyable toys or benefits.

Good spot Ditchcrawler, It looks quite nice inside. If the Guy was looking for £10.5k what sort of offer do you recon he might go for ? (Given that it looks like the original engine)
